American Tragedy: The Rabid Consumption of Popular Culture & the Illusion of Autonomy
MA Dissertation, Awarded Distinction
Royal College of Art
American Tragedy seeks to understand the current state of political discourse in the United States in the context of popular culture. It examines some cannons of Western popular culture through the lens of various medias, and the resulting inextricable relationship to American politics. It explores these relationships by firstly examining the histories of political communications in the United States, then examining various moments of satire presented through the frameworks of popular culture created in the United States, and Europe. The visual language nods to various patterns often presented in political and current events media.

Content-Full is a printed publication that sits in parallel proximity to Content-Free, Visual Communication’s digital “portal into a world of thinking and making”. It extends the experimental exhibition and testing space to the print realm in the hopes of creating a printed matter that engages with the RCA White City community. The publication is produced twice a year to coincide with the WIP show, and the Final show.
